Welcome to The Storybook Illustrator Challenge

This month I have a different kind of challenge for you. I am going to provide a story for you to illustrate. You may take any part of the story to create a scene just as you would find in an actual storybook. I even have the template including the book, the story, and a blank page for you to use.

You can find the storybook template (PNG) in the members’ only section.
HERE

I found it easiest to enlarge the storybook, create the illustration on the book’s blank page to get an approximate size. Once you have the illustration you want, merge the illustration layers, NOT THE BOOK!. Go to the image icon at the top of the workspace and scroll to perspective. Highlight the illustration layer and drag the bounding box so that the illustration closely conforms to the book page. Adjust the size of the illustration and remove any parts of the illustration that overlaps the book.

Merge all the layers, including the book, and place it on your regular 12x12. Create a background for the book and you are done.

Enter your page in the Monthly Challenge Gallery under the subheading Miscellaneous Challenges then remember to link back to this thread.

This month’s story:

Up the winding stairs to the secret room she silently glided. Attiah dressed in her finest gown of gold and russet with a trim of white velvet. Tiny leaf slippers adorned her feet. A coronet of wild flowers, berries and vines encircled her flowing mane thick and curled. ” It is time,” she thought as she passed through the hidden door into her secret domain.

The dimly lit room was small and crammed with items necessary for her incantations. Shelves piled high with vials, apothecary jars containing various herbal powders and sparkling liquids in a rainbow of colours each used to perfection. The ancient Book of Spells sat on the podium waiting for its mistress. Attiah glanced at the tome knowing the spell by memory even before the parchment pages opened to reveal the spell. Carefully Attiah measured and poured liquids of purples, sifted fine powders and chopped fragrant herbs. Into the cauldron they flowed. With a flick of her finger, a blue flame sparkled and flashed beneath the iron cauldron. She recited the words, felt the power rise with the silver grey smoke wafting upward and into her soul.

“That will do well”, she thought as she reached for her floating crystal orb. Carefully she placed the sphere on the stand of truth.

“Time to cast the spell so sorely needed,” she muttered to the birds perched on the windowsill. Quietly Attiah spoke the words-

“Into and through the glass let me pass. Down to the Earth that needs me so. Let me heal the lands and seas below.”……..

Thanks Sherry. I am pleased that it has been fairly popular. I am going to skip November and concentrate on a December story that I think will be popular. One can live in hope at any rate. lol
