What are you reading in 2023?

I am reading an Amazon First reads from a month or so ago- A Girl Called Samson. It's fantastic! I am even more excited by it now.I had been reading for about a week and 20% in when I wondered if it was based on real people. It's during the Revolutionary War era and the details are very specific. I google one of the Generals and the battle and yup, he is real. Annnndd... even better- she is too!

So I did finish one of the Tana French books; The secret place.
Don't really know what to say about it to be honest.
I found it well enough written ,but unrealistic somehow...
A,lot of it is,supposed to be teenage "angst" ,but they read as younger than they were supposed to be. Crafty but young ....
I did not take to the main detective much,and the secondary one was to crude, for what should have been 2010/15. That character more fitting a Lynda La Plante book from the 1970/ 80
The plot was ok,I will read the other book I bought,eventually..

@Robyn a long time ago you mentioned reading a book called : The last house on Needless street. The title stuck with me somehow,and when I saw it as a donation in the charity shop where I volunteer, I bought it.
I am half way through it now,and it is unlike anything I have read before.
What did you think of it ? And anyone else that happened to have read it.?

I LOVED it! It's been a while since I read it, but from memory I did NOT see the end coming!

It is definitely intriguing,I am about half way through, and still puzzled.
Vivi, I'll be interested to hear back from you once you have finished reading the book. :)

I'm currently reading, on my Kindle, "Where Waters Meet" by Zhang Ling. I'm also listening to "Best Friends Forever" by Jennifer Weiner on Scribd. I used to drive my mom nuts because I read two or three books at the same time. I still do it. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I drive myself nuts with some of my multiple book readings.:p I am reading two books ATM. One is a non-fiction book on Post Nazi Germany written in 1955. The other is about a kidnapped Faery Princess by Cassandra Clare.
They cancel each other out since they are on pretty extreme sides of the serious-fantasy continuum. (I just made that continuum up but it works hahaha!)

@Robyn .I finished the book.
It was a real eye opener for me.when I got to the last few chapters I just wanted to go in to the book and slap someone, I could not stop thinking about how often in life we ignore things or just walk around with blinkers on.
It was extremely well written I think, and even though it was hard to get into the rhythm of writing in the beginning, by the middle of the book,you could see why it had to be written that way.
The biggest surprise to me in away was Dee ,how sad and how fustrating the story got manipulated by her actions.
And I agree with you, one of the best books I have read in a very long time.
I have tried not to write any spoilers here, because I think a lot of you would also like " The last house on Needless street " please let me know if you do read it !

I have just got The last house on Needless street. will start it tonight.

I'm not the only one then. I'm reading one and listening to a different one right now. :D

@Cheryln, I LOVE your signature.
I JUST finished Where the Waters Meet and am listening to Best Friends Forever and going back and forth with another book I read "The Designer" by Marius Gabriel. I just started "The Widow" by Ira Roud on my Kindle.

Just finished The last house on Needless street. I liked the style of writing right from the start. I had my ideas on what it was about in the middle and was partly right, as I am guessing you were Robyn and Vivi. The Dee bit did surprise me too. It was a strange book in a lot of ways, but I did enjoy it. I am not totally unused to strange books though, I have read many Margaret Atwood book after all. And they are weird.

I tried to get the next book Sundial from my library but they dont seem to have it.

Guess now I will go back and finish Tapestry by Fiona McIntosh.
